OECD Has Revised Down World GDP Growth Forecast

OECD in its Economic Outlook No 94 has revised short-term GDP growth forecast on 2014. As a result, GDP growth forecast of 54% of countries under review (23 of 42) has been decreased as well as the world average forecast which reduced by 0.4% from 4.02% to 3.62%.

The most dramatic decrease in forecasted value of GDP growth has been made over India: forecast has been slumped by 1.66% from its last forecast of 6.39%.

Global Web Index, 2013

Designed and produced by the World Wide Web Foundation, the Web Index is the first multi-dimensional measure of the World Wide Web’s contribution to development and human rights globally. It covers 81 countries, incorporating indicators that assess the areas of universal access; freedom and openness; relevant content; and empowerment.

First released in 2012, the 2013 Index has been expanded and refined to include 20 new countries and features an enhanced data set, particularly in the areas of gender, Open Data, privacy rights and censorship. The Index combines existing secondary data with new primary data derived from an evidence-based expert assessment survey.

Global Hunger Index Report, 2013

From the 1990 GHI to the 2013 GHI, 23 countries reduced their scores by 50 percent or more. Forty-six countries made modest progress. Their GHI scores dropped by between 25 and 49.9 percent, and 21 countries decreased their GHI scores by less than 25 percent.

In Africa south of the Sahara, only one country Ghana is among the 10 best performers in terms of improving its GHI score since 1990. Kuwait’s progress in reducing hunger is due mainly to its unusually high score in 1990, when Iraq invaded the country: its GHI score fell by more than 7 points (or 59 percent) by 1995, by 3.4 points between 1995 and 2000, and by only 0.2 points after 2000.

Greenhouse Gases

In exploring international comparisons concerning emissions, the carbon intensity of growth has been used as the primary indicator of each country’s greenhouse gases.

The United States, Canada, and Norway have the highest carbon dioxide emissions per capita.

Cisco Global Cloud Index, 2012-2017

The Cisco Global Cloud Index is an ongoing effort to forecast the growth of global data center and cloud-based IP traffic. The forecast includes trends associated with data center virtualization and cloud computing.

Forecast Overview
Global data center traffic:
   ● Annual global data center IP traffic will reach 7.7 zettabytes by the end of 2017. By 2017, global data center IP traffic will reach 644 exabytes per month (up from 214 exabytes per month in 2012).
   ● Global data center IP traffic will nearly triple over the next 5 years. Overall, data center IP traffic will grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 25 percent from 2012 to 2017.

Health Status Vs Education Attainment and Income

In Europe, people with higher level of education and bigger income on average tend to be healthier than those with lower education and/or income level.

Thus, only 55% of people with low education level (ISCED 0-2) perceive their health status as “good” and “very good”. At the same time 81% of population with high education level (ISCED 5-6) has good and very good health.

The same picture is for income: the share of healthy people grows by almost 20% with the increase of income level from 1st to the 5th quintile.

Nearly 14 million (estimate) people in the US are Physically Challenged.

California, Texas, Florida & New York states are having more physically challenged people whereas Wyoming has the least (61K).
